Planning routes on PC and transferring to Chartplotter

Hi all,

I am trying to find a way to plan routes on a pc and then send that information to my Standard horizon CPN700i chartplotter. I have spoken to Standard Horizon and they suggest using a program that can output NMEA 0183 WPL sentences and connecting that to the of via a USB to serial converter. Any suggestions for such program and such converter?

Cheers,
Tom

Does your chartplotter have a SD chip/card reader? I do all my voyage planning in OpenCPN and then transfer the .gpx files to my chartplotter using an SD card. Not sure what format your chartplotter uses but GPS Babel can convert your tracks and waypoints into a format that is compatible.

Re: Planning routes on PC and transferring to Chartplotter

Thank you for the suggestion, it has a SD slot and even a usb/ mini usb slots. I have to play around with that to find a format that the gps will read as it didn't recognize GPX tracks. As far as i can tell from the manual it can only receive route data via NMEA 0183, however it can store/ retrieve route from the SD card so perhaps if I find a way to save routes from OpenCPN on the SD card in a format the plotter will recognize I could do that. Any idea if there is a non online version of that data converter in case i want to plot on the PC and transfer without internet access?

None that I'm aware of, sorry. Also, sorry for the delay in replying, I was out of the country.
