Engine: Yanmar 30 hp with V-drive and 3 bladed Maxprop.


A classic and well proven design, this Cal 40 was built when hull were made of thick solid fiberglass, not paper thick high tech materials. Elegant design but simple and easy to maintain.
1x double V-berth forward + 2 single berths aft + 2 optional berths in salon as well as salon table with U settee convertible to double bunk. 1x manual head & shower in forward bathroom.


Boat has been refitted and renovated during the last 3 years. Deck was re-painted and the cockpit teak planks restored. Interior was also re-painted.


Equipped with fridge (top opening 200 l) with new compressor and evaporator, SS sink, force 10 oven with 3 burner stove, LED lighting, ...


Electronics: Raymarine EV 100 autopilot (2018), speedo and depth sounder, Garmin display, VHF, ICOM portable VHF, ICOM SBB radio (not yet installed).


Electric: 4 solar panels (360W) charging 4x sealed 100ah DC batteries, 1x optima 75ah starting battery, charge separator, 400W Air Breeze wind generator, LED navigation lights.


Deck: Monitor wind vane, new lazybag, spinnaker pole, new hatch on main cabin, deck shower, self tacking winch (2) 2 speed winch (4) mast winch (2), hydraulic backstay adjuster, manual windlass, Schaefer rolling furler. Sails: 2x spinnaker, 2x storm jib, 1x number 1 genoa, 1x number 2 genoa, Main sail (need to replace). Hard dinghy with Yamaha 5hp outboard. 5 anchors (Bruce, CQR, Delta and 2 Danforth).


Remarks: the 30 HP Yanmar engine is working ok but should be revised or replaced for peace of mind. The main sail needs to be replaced (should be easy to find a main sail (used or new) for a Cal 40 . These 2 points are taken into consideration into the low asking price for a quick sale (keen to sell for personal reasons).


Looking at Cal 40 for sale online, I find one at 15K in terrible shape with lots of work and no equipment and another one in great shape but at 45K. This one with a revised engine and sail would compare favorably at that 45K but for a better cost!


All system are running as owner is currently living onboard here in Malaysia. The boat is right now in a well protected marina .. free of any docking charges and right next to an inexpensive boatyard where any work could be easily and cheaply done. This is a great vessel for a couple or someone who like to do a low budget charter (many bunks). Simple, easy to maintain at a good price! If you are interested, best is to come visit the vessel by flying to Kota Kinabalu on Sabah (Borneo), Malaysia. The boat is located a short flight or 3h by road from Kota Kinabalu.
