Hallberg Rassy

My HR 42F has after 10 years and around 17000 miles a rudder problem.
The simmerring mounted in the hull has failed and the bearing in the skeg has failed too.
Is this a known problem in the forum?

Re: Hallberg Rassy

perhaps you could use terminology we are familiar with on this side of the pond. Or describe the problem more clearly. A photo perhaps?

Simmerring is a shaft seal system made by simrit ( in Poland I think ) they are essentially what we call lip seals

I dont think HR use them though. What the OP probably means is the cutlass bearing and the gland at the top of the stern tube.

Try hroa.co.uk for starters.

You might contact Roland Ollson at the factory and ask for his thoughts.

There is a Yahoo Group for HRs that has some great depth of experience and expertise.

Re: Hallberg Rassy

My question is has a HR sailor or bearing problems encoutered himself or has Hr sailors heard about bearing wear and tear of the bearings of the HR42F type of 2001 or earlier and with a milage as mentioned or more.
I think that the problem discribed should not occur now already.

aquadraat - what is your native language? I may be able to find you someone that can help better than I can.
