Spectra Feed Pump maintenance?

Hi I have an older Newport 400. A loose wire in the feed pump relay nearly stated a fire yesterday.
I removed the feed pump to replace the old wiring and the inside of the motor is covered with carbon dust from the brushes.
What’s the best way to clean the dust off the motor? Compressed air? Should I wipe down with electrical contact cleaner?

I did get your text today. Sorry I was buried at the shop today. If you can salvage this motor I would certainly try. This is an older direct drive motor. They are no longer serviced by Spectra or the direct drive pump head. Spectra only uses mag drive pumps now and the pump and motor must both be replaced if your current motor can not be salvaged. A replacement mag drive motor and pump is something you'll have to sit down for when I tell you the price. It would be worth considering sending the motor to a motor shop that can do rewinds etc. on this motor.

Re: Spectra Feed Pump maintenance?

I went ashore and found an air compressor to blow all the carbon dust out, then replaced the wiring to the motor.
I think it should be good to go, jist a couple more hours of boat yoga to get it all reinstalled.
Better than sitting, I’m laying down. How much for a mag drive pump/motor?

Re: Spectra Feed Pump maintenance?

I think the motor may have been made by Lesson. Should be hard to find another. Possibly the shaft output is semi proprietary, should be able to get something machined up.
