36 Hunter Hull ID Check - Total Loss?

This fits into the slap myself category.

We are about to survey an 82 36 Hunter in the morning, that is immaculate (to the untrained eye), and has been almost completely redone from the hull up in the last 5 years. The owner poured an absolutely absurd amount of money into it, and is having to liquidate his assets.

We are walking into this giddy, but straight faced, thinking we might get lucky here but maybe not.

But then I went and did a generic verihull report tonight (instead of last week, doh) and of course, this dear vessel was previously of New Orleans, and shows up as Having been a total loss after Katrina.

Should we be concerned? The surveyor will find anything we need to be concerned with right?

Will this change anything as it relates to our financing this, or insuring it?

Thanks for any input, this just freaked me out having dealt with total loss cars years ago, and how different everything is with that.

Total loss is an economic criteria, has nothing to do with structural damage. A good surveyor should find all hidden bugs. Be sure the surveyor has no ties to owner/club/town..... etc.

I've one of those boats, a 1980 and they are built like tanks. Just make sure to check the keel/hull join, that would be my main worry.

If it wasnt disclosed before, you should ask for additional money off, then make a decision after the survey.
