Cool Bottom paint question in Everett, WA (Pacific Northwest/Seattle area)

Hi folks,

I recently bought a 26' sailboat and have it hauled out for bottom paint. I was originally planning on doing it myself, after reading the marina rules carefully, I thought it might be worth paying a business to do it.

First off, there aren't a ton of boat repair shops, and even fewer who actually responded to my request for a quote. The one quote I got at the marina wanted to charge $50/ft ( = $1300+tax) for a standard sanding + 2 coats of Interlux multi-season ablative. This does not include haul out, pressure washing, etc. because I've already done all that.

For any PNW boat owners, how normal does this quote sound to you? Any recommendations for bottom painters in the area? (Everett marina)

Thanks!

Just came back from there, where I picked up my new to me boat. If you can, do it yourself and save. Lots of how to's on youtube. No yard will ever put the attention to detail into your boat like you will...and they charge through the nose as well.

Thanks I did end up painting it myself. I probably spent 2x the time the boat shop would've spent, but I'm glad I did because I was able to pick the paint I wanted and also spot primed spots where the sander got to the gelcoat.

What did you use for primer?

I used Interlux 2000e, as it was the only one my West Marine Supply had. I only primed areas where I sanded to bare gelcoat.
