Hauling 25' Wide Catamaran in Nova Scotia Canada?
Anybody have any information about yards that are capable of hauling a 25' wide catamaran in Nova Scotia Canada ?
As a second choice, any information about yards that have or hire a crane for haul-out would be appreciated.
Boat is 25'W * 46'L * 4'D

Re: Hauling 25' Wide Catamaran in Nova Scotia Canada?
I'm in Nova Scotia right now.
East river shipyard (actually a marina) plans to have a trailer to haul cats, this summer.
We just careened on a beach, Friday night, to install two through hulls, clean the bottom and install two zincs.
We planned to use East River shipyard (We're 50 x 25 feet), and may yet do so. But for these small jobs, it was nice to do it for free.
Are you in NS now?
Cheers.
Paul.

Re: Hauling 25' Wide Catamaran in Nova Scotia Canada?
Thanks Paul,
I already spoke with Captain Boutilier at East River by email.
He said he will have a hydraulic trailer capable of hauling larger cats delivered in September.
I may drop by to have a look at his ramp, and talk with him.
I'd certainly prefer not to be the "guinea pig", let me know if you decide to haul out there.
We are on the boat in NS. Currently on day 12 of our quarantine.
Haven't been in Canada for a while, thought returning in summer would let us ease into the climate shock, but man it's cold !

Yes, it is a bit "chill". Welcome to God's country.
A maritimer was walking around the other day, and bumped into God. Yeah, that one. Anyway; he asked God, what are you doing here? God replied "It's COVID, I'm working from home!"
Cheers.

What beach did you careen on? What is your draft? Pics? Can you walk me thru the process?

All my Nova Scotia relatives are complaining about the heat.
Enjoy your visit.

Re: Hauling 25' Wide Catamaran in Nova Scotia Canada?
It's pretty simple to beach a cat, we found a place with a good bottom. No big rocks sticking out, not too muddy, fairly well protected from swell, etc. Then we pulled up to the beach about an hour after high tide (since we wanted to leave at the next high tide, which was lower than this one). Then let the tide go out, do your thing, and off at the next one.
If you have any specific questions, I'll be happy to answer them.
We went on a night tide, and a cool night. This kept the mosquitos, and the looky loos, to a minimum. On the beach at 9:30pm, off at 0800 the next morning.
We have a daggerboard cat, with lifting rudders, so we only needed about 2 feet of tide to do our thing.
The beach was across from the lunenburg Yacht club. I don't remember the name of the island, maybe "little heckman"?
The weather in June was quite hot, but lately it's been somewhat cooler than the norm.
Cheers.
Paul.

i guess the choice of a beach is of the greatest importance. And protected from swell is primary. i have thot that putting out a kedge anchor would help getting off as well. Good idea to do the work at nite, especially right off the yacht club!

Re: Hauling 25' Wide Catamaran in Nova Scotia Canada?
Hi JM
Lunenburg (LIFE) and Shelburne Ship Repair, Gold River Marina (in Chester), Cheticamp (in Cape Breton) were all on my list 4 years ago as being capable. Cheticamp and LIFE were using or planning on travel lifts, the others using cranes.
If you need any further details, you can reach me on williamsbahama@gmail.com.

you might try Sampson in Petit de Grat, Isle madame, south coast of cape breton. https://www.samsonboats.com/150-ton-travelift

The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron would be another contender.

Re: Hauling 25' Wide Catamaran in Nova Scotia Canada?
RNSYS won't haul a 25 foot wide Cat. They might allow a crane to lift you, but they won't haul you on the ramp.
They've done it a couple of times, for an employee, but they're not comfortable doing it otherwise.
It's a very tight fit, at 25 feet.
Lunenburg foundries have a large rail type lift. It's $8000 for the lift, and a bunch of bucks for every day on it. I doubt you'd want to pay those rates, we didn't. The travel lift can't accommodate your beam.
Sampson will haul you, but they want to do the work on the boat, and weren't keen on DIY.
Cheers.
Paul.
