Re: Tartan 34c vs Morgan 33T vs Catalina 30?

Littlewing77 thank you for the advice. A 5k cat that I can bash up learning might not be the worst advice. The only sailing I've done is a dingie and windsurfing. All my other experience is with a motor or paddle.

I do have a whole lot to learn.

I've not even seen any of these boats in person. Wife and I are chomping at the bit to get down to Florida and see them. She likes the Tartan's best also.

I like some other boats, but I keep coming back to the engine placement on the Tartan. Love how you can reach it form all sides. I HATE working on engines when you can reach the parts. Don't mind it a bit if I can reach them. That is why I do all the work on my motorcycles myself but keep new cars with long warranties so I don't have to work on them.

We are most likely going to buy a Tartan.

I really like the layout on that Jeanneau though. That's the first time I've seen one of those. All the others on the market are out of our price range and never read anything about them. Like how you can steer inside and outside depending on the weather. But the engine looks like it would be really hard to reach.

Re: Tartan 34c vs Morgan 33T vs Catalina 30?

Just messaged the person with the Tartan 34C in Florida.

Damn, I'm nervous as hell. Normal???

Wife blackmailing me to get me moving on buying a boat so have to get off my butt. I tend to think things to death before I act. But I'm almost never upset when I finally buy something I really want.... *shrug*

Will stop buy Indiantown and make an offer on the 34C they have there that's in poor repair if the Titusville one is sold. Wife's taking off work so we will be down in Florida in a week or two *knock on wood* if everything flows Ok to start seeing boats.

Just make sure that you take off the rose colored glasses and approach the boat with eyes wide open as these older boats often have issues that may or may not be a big problem. If you are lucky, a previous owner took good preventative care.

if planning on staying or living aboard you need to look at holding tank size. small tanks mean always looking for a pumpout

Re: Tartan 34c vs Morgan 33T vs Catalina 30?

Good advice. Thanks!

No word yet. Pessimist in me thinks it's probably already sold.

Even if it is we will go and look at several other boats just to get a feel.

I'd be happy to wait one more year before we purchase so it's a good place to be in.

No rush.
