Liveaboards for Rent in Los Angeles

Hi! I’ve been researching being a liveaboard for several years and I’d finally like to take the plunge but I’m looking for Liveaboard for rent options in Los Angeles and surrounding areas. I’d like something with a bathroom and shower onboard, great WiFi as I work remotely and why being a liveaboard is so appealing.

My range is $1,500 and below/per month, all utilities included.

Any ideas guys????

I really appreciate it fellow seafarers!

Most marina contracts here prohibit commercial use in general and renting your boat for residential use specifically.

Need to own a decent appropriately equipt boat, have a survey and insurance in hand and find a marina that accepts you. Good luck
Anything else is not legal these days in MDR or any other above board marina operation.
Currently there only grandfathered in livaboards in our marina, living mostly on dilapidated boats except for a handful which tend to be active with their boats and lives. The others are the borderline homeless types.
I was a livaboards in the 90's, paid off the mortgage on the boat instead on apartment rental.
It was a great time in my life.
Craigslist livaboards ads are scams, they are not legal.

Two questions...1) Have you been to L.A. and scoped the harbors out? Or even L.A. itself?
2) What is it you need in a harbor?

Re: Liveaboards for Rent in Los Angeles

I currently live in L.A. I really love Venice. I’ve been to Marina Del Rey to look at a liveaboard to rent but it wasn’t quite right for me. I haven’t really checked out docks or harbors much because of the way things are right now. But I’d want good WiFi, accessibility regarding bathrooms and showers for guests/myself if needed, security and a great community in general. I’m a newbie so that matters!

Re: Liveaboards for Rent in Los Angeles

I know there is a really friendly yacht club up the channel. Maybe check there. Other possibilities are Ventura and Oxnard

Re: Liveaboards for Rent in Los Angeles

The problem is renting a slip is very corporate these days. Lots of rules, credit checks your paperwork, surveys, insurance need to be in a row. You only get one key, no one else on the boat without you, liveaboard if allowed fee is at least 50% more.
All have land heads for you, 1 parking spot.
You want high end facilities and more, like pool and WiFi, get ready to pay a pretty penny.

Yup...My guess would be about $25 a foot.

Re: Liveaboards for Rent in Los Angeles

Maybe in the sloughs around Lodi? IMO, your rental range will make this idea impossible for you, but look at old houseboats, maybe you could find something that would get you on the water. I wouldn't expect anything fancy.

Good luck with it. You never know what's in your future.
