Charts for Africa?

Hi. Is there a place to get charts for OpenCPN for Africa regions?

S-63 charts if you need a specific place.
What are you looking for?

Re: Charts for Africa?

Mostly the southern and western coasts of Africa. Where do I find S-63 charts? O-charts.org does not have any of these areas covered.

Re: Charts for Africa?

For example at Chartworld.com
S-63 charts are the official vector charts used by commercial vessels.
Distribution is regulated and happens via so called VARs.
Chartworld is an independent one. Other well known ones are Admiralty or Primar. Or Transas.
You will need a S-63 UserPermit for OpenCPN to license S-63 charts.
Some more information at o-charts.

To get an idea about S-63 coverage use this link:

We would be able to license the charts from South Africa and Namibia via UKHO. We did not do it in the past as the set will be relatively expensive (in comparison).

Re: Charts for Africa?

OK, thank you. Probably better and easier to use the Navionics charts for these areas then as I have already downloaded them?

Re: Charts for Africa?

With CMAP-93 I went aground in Senegal because the green and red of the entrance in casamance river were not updated... but what was crazy were two dolfins showing us the way. We followed the dolfins untill inside the river and that was great. Even because in that area you can find either the sharks in the sea or the croccodiles in the river.

But but but I got one more lesson: Google Maps somethimes shows the routes of the ferries: the route of the ferry that goes to Ziguinshor in casamance ir the right one to enter the river.

Furthermore: in Dakar at the Circ de Vouil (Sailing Club) I found a freak one living in the sofa of the club who collect the gpx of all the sailors passing there and he distribute them for those who need. I got them for free. But the wrong one. And I went aground. But I went aground slowly on the sand with an iron maiden sailing boat.

Ceers from Italy, bye
