Repair of Salvage Boats, What at the after effects on insurance and such?

For my mornings I like to watch some sort of sailing channels.

Nice with no politics or negative news.

Recently there is a channel 'Expedition Evans' where they bought an insurance auction sale of a Beneteau 49.

The boat had hit the keel hard and did damage to the grid.

They Evans are a couple with limited repair experience. I believe they have extensively researched the repairs by the way they talk. So they know what they are getting into as far as needed repairs.

So they successfully repair this boat.

Will they be able to get the hull insured or will they only be able to get liability insurance?

What steps are likely involved?

Please, no guessing. I would like to know from people that have experience and can talk with more certain knowledge.

No, I am not looking to go buy a project. Right now I am at the learn to sail stage with a small fleet of an opti, a sunfish and a Hunter 170 and at a local yacht club getting some professional help when needed.

You're talking about a bunch of different insurance companies, each with its own underwriting policies, so no unqualified answer is possible. In the general case, insurance will be based on a survey, so if it is properly repaired, it is insurable.

A survey, following the owner disclaimer on a past damage should allow the underwriter to make a decision. There is no definite answer on that. Some insurers may accept this and offer a coverage, some may not.
