I'm still looking for a hand-bearing
compass that settles quickly. My
current go-to is the Iris 50, about which my only complaint is that the card takes too long to settle. In contrast, the needle on my Suunto MC-2 baseplate
compass is practically nailed to magnetic north, with almost no swing at all.
So, I recently learned of Suunto's KB-20 and was curious if anyone had experience with it. Is it as well-damped as the MC-2, or does it act closer to the Iris? (I do foresee potential issues with parallax and misreading back-bearings for bearings, but some of that can be addressed. I'm not sure if it has luminous markings though, which would be a bigger problem.)
Apart from that, does anyone know of other hand compasses that are incredibly well-damped?
