Wooden yacht refit in Turkey

Anyone had a wooden boat repaired/refitted in Turkey? Am I right in thinking yards on the Black Sea are more reasonably priced than the Aegean?

Re: Wooden yacht refit in Turkey

I don’t know about prices, I do know that Turkey is one of the last places in the world to build wooden boats (also big boats and superyachts). They have a long tradition of wooden boat building and have kept the know how throughout the years.

Their latest wooden superyacht.

Re: Wooden yacht refit in Turkey

I have sailed the entire Black Sea and no I did not look for a yard per se. What I looked for was just a place to spend the night or wait out a blow and it was almost always a fishing harbor. There are a couple of big yards. Not sure where your boat is but it is a long way up there. I have sailed the entire Turkish coast from Hopi to Mersin and spent 3 winters in Turkey.

Got a lot of boat done there and the craftsman ship is excellent. I use to marvel at the workmen as they redid wooden boats. It was pure artisty at it's best. Check the prices of the yards on the Med side before taking that journey up to the Black Sea. And know well that there are more skilled craftsmen on the Med side than you will find on the Black Sea side.
Good Luck
