True, true. Even in the 'quadraphonic Blaupunkt' days of my speed boating I never liked loud music. Something quiet in the background while stopped was nice but nothing underway. So no big plans for 'big audio' in my future.

They are supposed to be acoustically transparent.

Many speakers these days don't even come with grills, which is a shame as I'd have liked them on mine just for the protection if nothing else.

I don't have a good explanation of this. There must be some reflections and some absorption, both a function of frequency, but the effect should not be noticeable. Nevertheless, I am able to hear a minor difference. Perhaps, it is a compensation of a very poor eye sight.

Re: Good sound system on a boat

Bose S1 Pro. Thank me later. Its actually a battery powered busking amp with Bose array technology. Sounds great no matter where you are standing because that arrary tecnology surrounds the space with sound. Much, much better than your standard point and shoot speakers where the sound quality is only good in one small spot.
Another plus is you can plug in a mic and guitar/keyboard and put on a small concert for the whole marina. It can get loud if you want it too, but also whisper quite that sounds great even around a 90 degree bend.
