Sail drives look different.

am surveying a new to me Catamaran and the two sail drives look different from one another. The water intake holes are square in one and little ovals in the other. Anyone know what's up with that? I am attaching pictures

Re: Sail drives look different.

It looks like someone cut out 3 of the filter ribs, maybe to improve water flow.

Check model number and serial numbers stamped on SD unit inside the boat.

This does look to be the case. I bet beneath that anti foul on the one with squares you will find cutting and filing marks.

if they have been enlarged I'd be checking that engine for an overheating problem. But also check the other one for a paint build up in the holes.

This is what you should do.
Open engine lockers, get inside and find the id plaques on the drive.
They are probably both SD50 but the id plaque is the answer.

Re: Sail drives look different.

Thanks to all! I will be back to the boat on Tuesday and will take a look at the drive plaque.
I figured that was the best course of action, but often times the collective knowledge here is vast and immediate!
