Chain plate/rod on hunter legend 37.5/40.5

I hope everyone is well. Does anybody know the best way to inspect the chain plate attachment of the rod on a Hunter legend 37.5/40.5? On my boat, the shrouds are connected through the deck to a solid rod that then attaches to a point on the bottom of the boat that is sealed inside a fiberglass box that looks structural. I am hesitant to cut an inspection port.

I am the new owner of a Legend 35 and the first thing that needs attention are these chainplate rod anchors.

These are pieces of 3"x.25 angle iron. There's a thread out there that covers this job on a H34, which uses basically the same system.

Looks like Hunter decided to save a few dollars and use regular steel rather than galvanized or stainless.

Someone mentioned drilling an inspection port and an endoscope to inspect.

I think that is gonna be my first move to assess just how bad the corrosion is.

The job it self looks pretty simple. I believe the most difficult part will be removing the saloon woodwork to gain access to the liner.
