Where can I haul out my 30' beam in Baja Mexico?

Hi All - our boat is moving from Honolulu to San Francisco this month and then hopping down the Cali coast - I've received helpful input on haul out location in Napa Valley that will work great, now trying to identify options in Baja assuming my husband deems it safe to wait to do any work until Mexico.

We have a 30' beam and I know Ensenada cannot accommodate us (which is a shame, they have done great work for my husband in the past on a previous boat!).

Just trying to plan head since it is unusual to find a lift large enough. Thinking if anywhere on Baja would have one, it would likely be Cabo or La Paz.

Thanks so much!

Found those at this link: https://www.thelog.com/boatyard/

There might be more on that listing.

Suggest you contact them to ascertain full capabilities and if they are operating under Covid-19 restrictions or not.

Enjoy your trip.

thank you! this is where we are planning to keep the boat for a season or 2 so if we can hold off on work until we get there - that would be quite ideal!

appreciate the great info

Re: Where can I haul out my 30' beam in Baja Mexico?

Ashton, one thing to think about in the Sea Of Cortez. Hurricanes. Every year they get at least one or two. Also some pretty dramatic tropical depressions blow through. I keep my boat on a trailer, a Condor 30, in San Carlos. SC is quite a ways up the western coast of Mexico. If your boat is in the water or on some sort of dry storage... it can be nervous city watching windyty.com.

La Paz has a substantial expat community. San Carlos pretty much sheds expats from June on until they return once the weather breaks in November. Mexico is so freaking hot and humid once the hot wet blanket is thrown on in June.

Just be aware of ‘canes.

The large yards in Ensenada can handle vessels larger than any of us will ever own. You should talk to 1 or 2 of them about their capacity to handle your boat.

Re: Where can I haul out my 30' beam in Baja Mexico?

I was looking for a place to haul our boat too. I looked at Ensenada, Guaymas, La Paz, Bayship Marine in SF.

Ensenada was pricy and I don’t think you can do your own work yard labor is $25-$35 an hour. Guaymas I might consider for labor in the water. La Paz got Pricy, Then I discovered Napa, California’s yard. They have a small chandlery, $150 out, $150 in, $10 a day layup, you can work on the boat yourself, live on the boat, you do have to buy the paint from them ( I’m good with that). I’m hauling there in October I think.

I think Puerto Escondido could do it. How long do you need it out? Up towards San Filipe it would be on moist sand twice a day for a few hours.

Re: Where can I haul out my 30' beam in Baja Mexico?

We have hauled our current 42 foot monohull several times At Berkowitz boat yard in La Paz and also our last boat a 34 foot monohull. Several years we left our boat there over the summer, he now has a 200 ton travel lift and in all the years they have been in operation has never lost a boat in a hurricane. That is not true of other yards in La Paz
