Trimarans at ARC+ 2019

My boat under construction in La Rochelle (Neel47) and it will be ready in September, our skipper never saw the atlantic in his life (but very experience in racing), the crew has less then 60 hours on a trimaran collectively. Today's question is: what downwind sails would YOu choose (including Parasailor)

Re: Trimarans at ARC+ 2019

I would go for a screacher (code zero) on a loose furler, on a wide multi no need to pole out when downwind wing on wing with working jib.

Easy to control and furl single handed so can run at night.

On a fast boat you will be able to pull onto a reach and screacher will be able to cope with tighter apparent wind angle.

Same sail will work upwind in light conditions where a spinnaker would collapse

Do you have a sea anchor yet?

We've enjoyed our screacher on our last 36' tri and on 2 previous (40'/31') trimarans. Not as large as your Neel, but easy to use as described above.

NOTE: I"ve not been on a Neel in some time, so I can't recall how lines are run, but we set up a continuous line for the Code 0 furler all the way to the cockpit. Never had to go up front.

Good luck.

Is your 47 the one that will be shown at Annapolis?

A screecher and a symmetrical spinnaker.
