Recommended Surveyor in Cancun Mexico?

Hello there! I've put an offer in on a boat in Cancun (I live in the US) but am having a hard time finding a local surveyor, much less a good surveyor. Any advice on how to find a good surveyor in a foreign country? Or does anyone have a surveyor they have worked with in the area and would recommend? Thanks so much!

That boat might not survive this storm. It's going to be crazy in Isla Mujers.

You may be best served flying a surveyor down for a day.

I know... Storm went from nothing to a cat 4 in between our verbal and signed offer. We will see, at least we haven't purchased plane tickets yet. Hope everyone down there stays safe

Re: Recommended Surveyor in Cancun Mexico?

You might be best off following Sailmonkey's advice, I sure wouldn't trust a surveyor from there when your not a Mexican citizen and most likely planning to take the boat elsewhere. What kind and year of boat is it? People on the forum can probably point out problem areas to look for on a particular model. Buy a rubber mallet and moisture meter, then sea trial it yourself. Check oil levels before trials then have them run full throttle for 5 -15 minutes minimum and recheck oil and noise of engine. Also you want a full reverse to see how tranny and drive train is. Have a good flashlight to check into all nooks and crannies. Have the wife pack a horseshoe, can't hurt. Good luck!

Re: Recommended Surveyor in Cancun Mexico?

Unfortunatley there are no marine surveyors in the Cancun area. As the senior SAMS surveyor, in Mexico, I fly there 3 or 4 times a year from La Paz, Mexico.
I just referred another survey in Cancun to a surveyor from La Paz to do a 37 foot sailboat there in the next week or so. Alon.Badt@gmail is a good surveyor but not SAMS or NAMS. Good luck, specially with the weather there.
