Hello from Silver City, New Mexico + Time to buy a boat

Hello,

My name is Sam age 36, I am not new to this site, but have never been a position that I needed to post something. I love the site and read it all the time. Finally, my jobs taking me to the ocean where I can finally buy a proper sailboat. I've sailed some small boats in the midwest and been studying sailing for a long time. However this next step in my sailing passion I am very much a novice.

I am a wildland firefighter. I've been on a hotshot crew for many years now and am finally transitioning to a Wildland engine and I'll be stationed somewhere between Oxnard and Monterey starting this winter.

I am looking to purchase a sailboat I can enjoy when I am not fighting fire. I have a motorhome I live in for most the year and would like to spend a few days a month on my sailboat.

My budget is $20,000. I will be singlehanded for the foreseeable future. And I only desire to coastal cruise right now, but hope to make serious passages someday. Not interested in circumnavigating.

I am excited to engage with this community for tips or leads to find a boat in the next few months. I would love to find one with a transferrable slip in places like Santa Barbara, Ventura, Oxnard, etc.

I am willing to go over my budget a few thousand for the right long term boat.

Look forward to meeting you.

Sam

Hi Sam...Welcome to the forum. There's all kinds of boats in that price range. A good site is https://www.yachtworld.com/boats-for-sale/
