GRP Bow thruster on steel boat.

Im looking at installing a tunnel type bow thruster in a 3mm high tensile steel sailboat. The thruster comes with an optional steel tunnel at a rediculous price.

Is there anything wrong with epoxy glassing a GRP tunnel into a steel hull? Has anyone done this before?

I've only just bought the boat so I'm very familiar with GRP but its my first steel boat Also my first post so hi everyone!

I wouldn't do it. You will likely find that the internal diameter of the tunnel is the same as ordinary steel pipe and you don't need to buy the commercial tunnel.

Glassing a GRP tunnel into a steel hull is not something I would recommend. You introduce a potential weak spot into your hull.

I am with south4320's advice to try to find a mild steel pipe of the same diameter and have it welded in properly.

Good luck!
