Chart Updates on Open CPN

I've been using Open CPN for many years and find it a great system. All of my charts in my data base, however, are probably way out of date, as far as revisions and NM are concerned. How do we go about updating the charts in our Open CPN data base so that we have the latest revisions? Thanks.

Are you using the NOAA free ENC and/or RNC charts? Those are easily downloaded. I can't speak to charts from other sources.

Coquina, All of my charts are the free, NOAA versions. Yes, they are very easy to download and install. I’m wondering if there isn’t a way to update those in my database without removing them and reloading everything.

I guess I am not getting the issue. RNCs are trivial to re-index. ENCs take a few minutes to prep, but you only have to do either one every few months at most. End to end is maybe 20-30 minutes with a fair amount of that just something happening while you go make a coffee or something.

If you have downloaded your NOAA charts via the "Chart Downloader" plugin....updating is just a few clicks away. Read more in the manual.

Coquina, Sounds easy enough. Can you walk me through it? Starting with OpenCPN opened on my laptop. What’s next?

the Chartdownloader at Options|Charts|Chartdownloader does already everything you want in the case of the US charts.

Coquina and Cagney, I'm using a very old version of Open CPN (2013). Been working so well, I never got around to updating it. it doesn't have some of the features that newer versions have, so I'm going to delete my current version and reinstall the latest. Thanks for the help. Good sailing!

You don't need to delete.
Install in parallel first and see if you feel comfortable step by step..
