Queensland Marina Advice Wanted

Greetings guys, need little advice. I am bringing back a new yacht from Bowen to Brisbane to my home marina.

It needs some electronic wind vane maintanence before I get too far south. What is the best marina for shipwrights etc, heading south from a Bowen?

Many thanks!

It's only Bowen to Brissie. Tie something white and light to the spreaders, for apparent wind angle, and wait till you get back where you know the marine service providers.

If it's a must do, Abel Point marina at Cannonvale (Airlie) should have someone nearby that can help you out.

This will be neither cheap nor quick nor necessarily competent. We've had a few dealings with techos in Airlie and not impressed does not fully express my reaction. And the marina is kinda dear, too, if you would need to stay there.

Just what would you be seeking?

Jim

There is a marine instrumentation service provider in the marina at Gladstone.

That sounds like Mackay Marina

Airlie's got some competent guys, just gotta find 'em. Give Marlin Marine a call, they'll head you in the right direction.

Thanks, I also was thinking about Mackay. I heard I might be bad someone there competent. I already did the McGiver fix of ribbons on spreaders. But I rather get fixed properly while I have the time.

I'm pretty sure that would be Modern Marine Electronics: I had good and helpful dealings with them a couple of years ago with a failed Simrad/B&G vane 3 years old which had already been replaced at 3 months old. Almost $400 for extended warranty replacement which only carried 6 months warranty: not MME's fault.

Re: Queensland Marina Advice Wanted

Did exactly the same trip this time last year with exactly the same issues, Airlie is expensive for marinas and no where near as good as Gladstone. I ended holding up till we got back to Brisbane.

I’m with Jim. Abell Point would not be my first call.
Maybe Mackay. Otherwise, the ever reliable Boat Works once you’re back.
