Man, I also wish I could afford to buy a fastcat. She sure looks fast and loose . When my wife wins the lottery you will be the first person I call, but in the meantime why don't you lend me one?
Good luck
Paul

Looks great. Would be very interested in more info as you approach the production phase. I am impressed with your forward thinking and hope all goes as planned with the green motion system.

Getting further into the developement of the new FastCat 405 we have decided to only offer this new cat and purposefully design it around the "Green Motion" propulsion system,
There are many reasons for us to do so but the main the reason is that the smaller Hydrodynamic resistance will make it an even better sailing Catamaran, The testing in the basin of Green Motion is almost finished.
This cat will also get the 9.6 Kw underwater motor but it will be detuned to 6 Kw because this will be enough power to get the boat to hull speed, extra power only wastes energy. The 405 will be able to generate up to 3 Kw from each Motogen while sailing so up to 6 Kw is possible
greetings
Gideon

Fastcat,
Beautiful design, I really like it. I would suggest that you could cut some more weight and improve main control by eliminating the boomvang and traveller and replacing them with a dual mainsheet system similar to what Catana uses.

Hallo Abaco we only use the dual mainsheet as with the FastCat 435 and 455
Much better control on the boom and main sail so do not worry

Gideon,
I just looked at your website and see that you do use that system. When you square up the settee in the salon, hopefully it will enable you to add some work space in the galley. As drawn, all the counter top is taken up with sinks and stove top. The galley really needs some food prep space.
Overall I have to commend on your efforts to drive the development of new technology in the green motion hybrid drive. I hope very much the system is a major success.

Hallo Abaco
I will make sure there is plenty of counter top space for food prepping , very important on a boat
I have attached a kitchen picture

photos of dual mainsheet system
Would you mind sending a couple photos of the dual mainsheet system? We have a traveller mainsheet system that attaches at the cabin top forward of the helm and a hard boom vang. I'm thinking this might solve a couple problems at once.

Thank you. I don't know if it would work in a mid boom system. I frankly like the aft attachments better that you have but I can't bring myself to loose the arch.

I should rephrase that as it sounds like I know more than I do. Would this work for mid boom sheeting?

Schoonerdog,
In theory yes. The loads would be significantly higher as you lose the leverage advantage end-boom sheeting offers. I have raced a Catana 58 several times using this system (end-boom). The simplicity makes it a great system. It also seems to provide better control over the boom when jibing because mainsheet angles are more accute than a traveller system with the car on centerline.

Hallo Schoonerdog
It will work but you have to check if your boom can handle the load and the same for your roof /block connection , it would simplify and improve the handling and setting of your sail and it prevents Jibing
Greetings
