Hi Stephen, we have just ordered a 25.7, it doesnt arrive untill early march so I maybe able to help with your questions if not now, but in a couple of months time. This will be our first boat, we wanted something small enough to be handled by just the two of us, even single handled if required, but also big enough to beable to overnight on short cruises and not break the bank!

From what i found out about the boat apart from being a Beneteau which is a very good start, is that it sails very well, points high and shouldnt disgrace its self on club races. Its a very solid little cruiser/racer, a kinda mini-me of its bigger brothers! Small nav table, small galley, could sleep 5 which really means 2, and you need to know them reasonably well, the saloon seat pulls out to a double bed, small toilet and v berth.

What info are you looking for? The beneteau web site has lots of info and pictures of the 25.7 even though the interior does look bigger in the picture than real life. I couldnt find much else online about the boat, apart from one article written in croatian, and as thats the only language out of the thousands I cant speak, it'll take me a while to translate.

regards

Graeme

Re: Beneteau First 25.7

Hi slo 007,

in a nut shell, we love it....but then we are new to sailing so dont have much to compare it with would be the honest answer!!

We like it because we can sail with just the two of us or sail comfortably with a couple of friends without feeling that we have to sit on each others laps. We haven't overnighted on her yet, but would be fine for two or two plus a couple of small kids.

We tend to just day sail around sydney harbour, but have entered a few club races and even though not won a race, had fun trying to keep up with the 35+ footers.

The boat sails well, we will happily reach 6kts in 12 kts of wind which I dont think is too bad, the max speed so far has been 7.8kts and often break 7.

The only sort of negative I would say is the boat tends to round up very easily if you have too much main sail up...thats properly due to not fine tuning the sails...(we are still learning !) so you have to be on your guide on gusty days and let out the main pretty quick ! This might be a negative to a cruising sailer but we kinda like it because its more akin to dingy sailing, this makes it a fun sail when the winds up at 17-20 kts.

not sure what info your looking for, so please drop me a line and hopefully I can help with my limited sailing knowledge

Regards

Graeme

Re: Beneteau First 25.7

hello, i have owned a beneteau first (,bought new )from 2008,
has lifting (or swinging to give it its proper action) keel,
holding tank,and factory fitted bowsprit,
we also needed a eberspracher heater, gets cold here!
i have made several improvements, and strengthened certain areas ( and it goes like the clappers) single handed everywhere!
any questions gladly answered

Re: Beneteau First 25.7

I saw a Beneteau 25.7 in Annapolis this spring. I liked the deck layout and dual rudders. I HATED the cabin. I couldn't sit anywhere, I couldn't use any of the interior features - at all. I am 6' 2"... If you are short, enjoy !

So many boats look good on paper - but you simply can't cram all those features into a small area.

I focused on the Beneteau 27.7 for a long time, there were a couple in Ireland with trailers for sale. Thought about having them shipped state side.

In the end I bought a Beneteau 265 (use 1993 model). With this boat I can sit down below in comfort, use the interior. The table kinda sucks, need a plan for it.

my two cents,
Frank.

Re: Beneteau First 25.7

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and i'm also a new owner of a 2012 Beneteau First 25.7 lifting keel.

As soon as i have information about the sailing characteristics I'll let you know.

For now I just have a question:

My first is equipped with a Yanmar 2YM15 shaft engine. Above the 2300rpm i have a lot of vibration, is this normal?

Thanks,

pr

hello had similar problem with 25.7 ,fitted a folding prop and noticed the end of the prop is quite poorly 'flared' to the threaded nut, once prop is removed youll see what i mean,
also fitted an upgraded thrust bearing, the one on it is rubber only ,the upgrade is brass and rubber, noticed slight improvement,
problem is poorly centered prop, resulting in slight imbalance,
but doesnt cause any other problems, john

hello, tighen the bottlescrews by hand, holding the cable so it doesnt twist,
tension them alltogether and make sure the mast is straight,
shake one side to see if the other side goes loose, not tight enough!!
repeat this on all four, the screw on the bottle screws should be on third of the way down and all equal,, sound low a low e guitar string, no need to be any tighter, and never should one be loose under sail, just a nice tension equal on all four so the mast doesnt bend or move, not too tight or somethings gotta give ,backstay always very tight with the pully rope
dont forget the to replace the splitpins on bottlescrews
