Hi there,
I'm from a fishing village in Cape Breton but now live in New Brunswick. I'll be operating out of Shediac, once my boat arrives this Spring... subject to Covid-19 delays. Getting a 26' Bank Dory built in Lunenburg with a full keel and an inboard diesel. She'll have two bunks and a stand-up wheelhouse, kind of like a mini lobster boat. Old fashioned big rudder, and a main mast with boom and block and tackle. At this point, they are just about finished with the planking. I have a few pics and will gladly share if anyone is interested, but I'm not too computer savvy. Plan on plying the local waters daily, but once I have her all figured out I'll be venturing further away and for extended periods of time, starting with bras d'or lakes and north shore of Cape Breton, where I know my way around. Not sure if I'll get to that in the first summer though. Anyway, here I am and I'd be happy to share thoughts and comments with like-minded members. Could talk about boats all day.

Welcome to the community.
I'd love to see pics. We just left lunenburg, and are in Mahone bay. We're at anchor in Maders cove.

As an aside, if RCR means what I think it means. My dad is ex SAR and ASW, on the old argus, and aurora. Different force, same masters.

Thanks Paul. My name is Keith. RCR is Royal Canadian Regiment so yes, you got it. I'm 55 and retired so my wife and I can now live the dream. Never know, might bump into you some day.

Looks nice Keith. Is that being built at the dory shop?
We were just there yesterday, but they were closed. Love that smell.

I hope we do share an anchorage some day.

Welcome Keith. Our boat is based on the east shore of Newfoundland these days. I haven't been down south your way yet, but might get there eventually.

To Paul:
Yep. The Dory Shop. Mike Gray is the builder and DCE is putting in the electrical. They're both still working in isolation. Getting a lot of my stuff from Binnacle.

To Mike:
I used to live in Glovertown. Lots of fun "out the bay". Never know, might even take a run over there some summer once i've got lots of hours on her and I've got someone who knows how to/wants to go along for the ride. We 've got enough coast to keep us all going for a lifetime.

Congrats. I've heard good things about Mike and Dave both. You've got the right guys on the job.

I'll watch this thread for updates. We'll be back in Lunenburg in June .

That’s sounds like a great boat! It must be a fun project. I’d like to hear more about how you are setting it up. Please post some more pictures as work progresses.
My Dad and I owned a Drascombe Longboat many years ago that was a similar concept. I miss that boat.
We sail out of SBYC although our boat is currently near Chester getting the final touch ups after our encounter with Dorian last fall.
We will look for you out on Shediac Bay.

Welcome! Shediac is great. Can get a bit noisy on Tuesday “wings night” at Captain Bill’s, if they still do that (been a few years.) But man, there's a lot of skinny water around there!

Thanks for the welcoming messages. Skinny water for sure - at least my draft won't be too much. Btw, it still gets noisy at night, at the wharf, at times. Lol. I will definitely be putting more photos up for all to see once things get moving along a bit. Next up after planking are ribs, keel (bolted on along the floor), then the motor (Yanmar 3GM30). The plan is have her delivered circa end-May, subject to Covid-19 delays.

David, I'll be tied up in PCYC. I shouldn't be hard to find. My berth is in the row closest to the road. You'll also see a Portland Pudgy on the stern when I'm tied up - apparently they tow very well. Not sure if you can PM on this site, but I can give you lots of details on configuration and planned layout if you want to chat in greater detail. The Dory Shop is great for custom builds.
