Apparently, the 'sport rig' doesn't make much (if any) difference to the performance. She isn't a fast
boat, but a solid one. I must say that life is easier just using the headsails most of the time, the only time I use the main now is if I have just a couple of hours to windward and I want to 'push on', otherwise reefing is easier with just the foresail and the balance of the
boat isn't effected. I used to think it was and had all sorts of 'adventures' turning into strong winds/heavy seas to reef the main (usually at night!), then I saw the light. OK, maybe 1 ~ 1.5kts slower boat speed, but no more untangling the main reefing lines. I reckon, fully loaded for
extended cruising (blue
water not coastal) she's a '6 kt boat'. Interestingly, most cruising cats I've met all
cruise slower than the brochures would have you believe, seems like if the boat is 'home' then we all 'over-load' them
