Mexico FMM cruiser question...

My wife and I are on our way slowly to Panama. We spent a couple months in Ensenada, and a few more months in La Paz. We are heading towards Mazatlán next week. It occurred to my our fmm’s Will be up relatively soon.
My question is:
Is there a way to get a new FMM in Mazatlán or are we really going to have to leave the boat and the dog to go to the border and back?

If by FMM you mean the Mexican visitor/tourist visa, those are only good for 180 days (for US citizens).
No one I know has a way to get around going back to the US to get a new one after the old one has expired. I usually take the opportunity to bring some boat supplies/equipment down as shipping to Mexico is a PITA

AndyEss is correct - you will have to leave Mexico to get a new tourist visa. With the COVID-19 in play, that could be challenging. I know that Alaska is still flying in and out of Mexico, Southwest is not. Alaska does fly out of Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas.

I have no knowledge of whether the national airlines, like Volaris or Calafia, are still flying.

Most folks I know whose FMMs are due to expire soon are either driving across the border or going to pay the fine when they fly out.

Right now, US Citizens can cross into the US. Getting back to Mexico via terrestrial border crossing may or may not be easy, and is subject to day-to-day changes. There are reports of Mexican protests at allowing gringos into the country due to fear of COVID-19 spread.

Air travel is not restricted, though the airlines are paring back flights, with Southwest ceasing operations in/out of Mexico altogether.

please read an emaili sent you. this is important. i live in marina mazatlan at present undergoing refit of a formosa 41. there is a legal loophole available for you. you do not need to undergo the issues these good cf people have mentioned.

yes it is legal. our marina and some others for a mordida to the agent will get this done. see customer relations aka receptionist.
as the original poster asked specifically for self i sent email to him. you folks are not in dire need of this service why should extraneous traffic be encouraged when mazatlan is being shut down as we typo.

so why did you post in the first place instead of just emailing then? i assume most every OP is for themselves. With almost 19,000 posts it seems you might be guilty of extraneous traffic.

We are in a similar situation. Our Visas expire the end of April, and we are concerned about the ability to renew. We can't leave the boat long term (it's our home) and we're afraid if we head to the USA for renewal, we won't be let back into Mexico.

On top of it all, we have 3 children, and certainly don't want to expose them to the risk of illness for the sake of a piece of paper.

Is it true the fine is only $525 pesos, on top of the new visa fee? If that's the case, it really is a no-brainer.. Noone asks for the visa anyway, it seems..

Several sites have this statement:
"If you overstay the time you were granted on your visitors permit (usually 180 days, see above), you will need to visit an immigration office (or the immigration center at the airport) and pay a fine before you can leave the country. The amount of the fine depends on how long you have over-stayed; it is calculated on a per-day basis and, at time of writing, will not be more than MX$6,000 pesos." They also say they cannot be renewed.
