Haul out spots in Mexico
Hi there,
We are planning to sail to The Sea of Cortez in Sept 2020 from the PNW. We have a 42 Lagoon ( Beam 25'3" ). I have started doing research on places to haul out for possibly summer or at least every 2 years for maintenance. We would appreciate anyone with info to reply.
Thanks

Re: Haul out spots in Mexico
I'm not headed south for 2 years, but have been keeping a watch out for the same. My vessel is 23'2" beam and 55,000lbs. The only possibility I have spotted is Puerto Penasco on the northern mainland coast of the Sea. Keep me posted with what you find. Thanks.

Re: Haul out spots in Mexico
Hi there,
Thanks for the response, so far Marine group boat works in Los Cabos can haul out 29' beam and up in La Paz, Bercovich Boat works can handle 34' Beam.
I will check out Puerto Penasco.
Thanks
Keep us informed of others

Re: Haul out spots in Mexico
Puerto penasco is by far the least expensive alternative. La Paz has haul out, not sure of weight/beam limitations. We are currently in Puerto Vallarta at Opequimar and they have the largest travel lift in Mexico and can handle your beam. Not cheap, but good.

Hi there,
Thanks for the info on Puerto Vallarta, I figured there would be a few options.

Hmmm, I guess things have changed. Last I knew Opequimar had a 100T, 22’ wide lift and La Cruz had a 150T, 32’ wide lift.

Re: Haul out spots in Mexico
1 we spent 2 years sailing the Sea of Cortez, great area
La Cruz Ship yard near PV can haul out a cat, I had mine hauled out in 2018. We found a great house on Airbnb to rent a block away, on the beach, with a pool while we were hauled out.
They dont have parts but we used Emilio Romay Ramos 664-682-4100 eromay@importadoratorres.com for some quickly needed SD50 parts imported from the US.
If in La Paz, La Paz marina is the best, and if engine/generator work is needed use Cross Marine, they are better than any one I found in the US.

Re: Haul out spots in Mexico
Wondering if there are any updates re Mexico haul out locations? We have a 41' cat w 23' beam. Important issue is that we might need hull work for possible core-cell delamination

Re: Haul out spots in Mexico
Baja West or East. Mainland West Coast. The hull delamination is my biggest concern.. meaning is there a yard in that area that is qualified and competent for core cell work (and able to haul us out)? Qualified diesel guy for tune-up, and perhaps some interior painting / bottom paint would be a bonus.

I had spent some time in Mx, particularly in the Sea of Cortez. Just my opinion is, "qualified and competent" and Mexico should not be in the same sentence. Most "repair" guys are freelancers trying to make a buck.
