Todays equivalent of an Oday Mariner/Pearson Ensign etc.

I am looking for a daysailer in the 20-27' range with a cuddy cabin that can be locked. Many years ago when I was a teen, I crewed on an Ensign. Sailed many times on Odays of various sorts.

I am looking for a boat like that today. Hopefully has more amenities, like roller furling jib, and maybe a way to leave the main up. Would be great if the cabin had a head and small sink?

I can look at the 40-50 yr old models I once sailed, but don't want a project boat, I just want to get the sails up in 5 minutes with minimal effort and be able to sail for a few hours.

It seems everything new today is starting at 30'. Or a few high performance boats, but I am not looking for that.

Do not want a performance boat that I have to tweak lots of things. Haven't sailed a J boat in a long while, maybe a J 24/27 is ok to daysail and not race?

Hope some ideas can come out of the collective brain here. Thanks

Price range? There are Rolls-Royces and there are Volkswagens on the market.

Alerion 20? J-24s are a fun choice too of course.

Thanks. Should have put, looking not to bring doing lots of tweaking. Want comfort and just sail and chat with buddies. So not sure a J is like that. I know you can control everything, not sure you have to, but some Js look somewhat uncomfortable?

OK then, if it were me and money was no object I'd get the Sparkman and Stephens Open 30.

Alerion does make a 28 too that may be what you are looking for.

Besides the ones mentioned, maybe one of these:

Alerion 28 is a fun boat.

Tartan Fantail look good, and they just came out with an electric one!

The Alerion is definitely a pretty boat too. There's one at my marina that just got hauled (older model). I'd been a bit unsure of what it was until it was mentioned here, but my first thought when I saw it was "ooh, I like that!"

Little yacht sales here in Kemah has an Alerion that looks to be in mint condition. What a pretty boat!

Re: Todays equivalent of an Oday Mariner/Pearson Ensign etc.

Just because the boat is "old" doesn't mean it's not in a fine, ready-to-sail shape. Plenty of boats that are fairly new are 'project boats' and some that are mature are ready to go. I'd look at the Pearson Electra if you can find one in great shape.
I have a Quickstep 24 (Ted Brewer design) that sails wonderfully and has a large cockpit (but not standing headroom forward). I can recommend it highly. It's a fairly simple boat with not a lot to go wrong and would seem to fit your order. They may have also made larger (26?) ones. There's a 24 at the Brooklin Yard in Maine for sale that looks great.

Re: Todays equivalent of an Oday Mariner/Pearson Ensign etc.

There is a thread here called “Note worthy finds under $30,000.”

Then there was a guy who just gave away a completely refitted ODay because he could not find a buyer.

Take a little time to browse around. I would bet an older boat in good shape would better suite your desires than a new production boat.

You might also look at the Harbor 20 by WD Schock.

A Sonar might also fit the bill without breaking the bank. Comfortable cockpit with good-sized sail area for reasonable performance without having to hike like crazy. A good number of them around, and trailerable if you want to change cruising grounds with the seasons.
