Hi,

Does anybody here know anything about the Morgan 31?

Been eyeing out this ad at a local broker, haven't actually seen the boat but just wondering if anybody has any comments re the model?

I thought that it might be a Charlie Morgan boat, but it isn't. Sorry I can't help you.

It's a Lavranos design, based on experiences he drew from working with S&S. She is a South African-built stalwart and is proverbially sea-kindly, strong and steady. Just don't expect to break any records! If she's the one I know, she's lying in Durban, and has been owned and loved by some good friends of mine. PM me if you want some inside info on the boat or anything, and give me a tel# and I'll fill you in with any info I can find.

Re: anyone have a Morgan 31?

My newly acquired Morgan 31 only has 2 winches fitted on the gunwales and one alongside the mast, with jam-cleats only on the mast (main halliard) and boom (reefing). For a south Atlantic cruise, will it possible to fly a spinnaker with this setup or do I need to fit more winches and cleats? Hopefully another Morgan 31 owner has made these modification- and more - and can give me some advise.

I have a 1989 Morgan 31 in the US. I have not changed any of the rigging/fitting out since it's crossing of the Atlantic.

If you PM or post exactly what you are wondering about I would be glad to send/post pictures of the layout on my boat.

Re: anyone have a Morgan 31?

Hello, me again re the Morgan 31 rigging. I am now wanting to lead the topping lift and main halyard aft to a winch in the cockpit. The winch is currently attached to the mast. Problem is that my boat has a raised section about 15"x15" all around the mast foot, probably 2" high. and as wide.
I need advise as to where the lower blocks from the mast foot as well as the organizer must be to get the lines "over" this raised section.
The easiest would probably be to drill holes through the base of the raised section but I would hate doing that, not knowing what problems I may run into.
Kindly advise how your bout is rigged in this area - perhaps with some photos if possible.
Thanks. Jack
