Ericson 37 or C&C 38?

I've never lived aboard so i'm reading a bunch.

I found an Ericson 37 & a C&C 38 in my price range (10 to 15k). The main purpose will be liveaboard for now with long term being coastal and then international travel (deep water).

If you had these two boats to pick, what direction would you go?

no. going next week to check them out. I was asking now to see if anyone came up with a big difference off the cuff.

I would pick the C&C, better structural fiberglass and design

I read with the wood core it was NOT as strong?

Is it an Ericson 37? I have only heard of the 35 or 38. If it is a 35 that has been lengthened somehow (bowsprit, stern pulpit, etc. I would go with the CC. But I really like the actual 38.

Seams to me the Ericson 37 had aluminum chain plates. Not a good thing if it does. Before you jump into that hole in the water to fill up with money...Make sure your wallet is large enough and you are handy with repairs. You will need both to be sure. Neither of those boats are designed for blue water.

Just looked it up. I looked at one of these in a 39'" version and didn't like it. It was like a tunnel belowdecks. This is something you can decide for yourself when you see it.

C&C 38-1 (1973), 38-2 (1975), Landfall 38 (1979) or 38-3 (1985)? Earlier 2 boats had stainless steel chainplates, LF38 model had alumimum

East coast is going to say C&C while west coast is going with Erickson 9 outta ten times.

Owned a C C 36 78 yr. Had the boat for 22 yrs cored hull and deck Never any indication of a problem.

Great that you were so fortunate. My records suggest a 99% chance of an issue with decks/trunk and a 70% chance of a hull issue on the older cored C&C's
