Build quality of new Dufour 382 and Jeanneau 389?

Does anyone has in-depth experience with either of these two boats? (Dufour 382 or Jeanneau 389)

Are they buildt reasonable strong to survive 5 years charter and remain fair assets afterwards?

I encountered some nasty warranty-stories about Jeanneau's, is the support up to the dealer of the manufacturer?

That one I still have to figure. Right now I am eyeing Dream Yacht Charter, their reciprocal use program sounds very appealing. I dismissed Sunsail and the Moorings because they apparently only offer shallow draft boats around 37'.

Speaking of the 5 years, preferably it should serve another 10+ under my caring hands Or - if possible - enlist it to a second-tier charter for another 5 years round. I don't see myself retiring sooner than 10+years.

Well we have a contract with Dream Yacht Charter for rigging servive and rigging survey to the fleet here in SXM. I can say the rig is well care , they have crews who 8/7 are making maintenance in the fleet, like engines service, etc... You should anyway get a good surveyor in your side. Good luck.

After reading the peril of Cheeky Rafiki, sure, I'll get a good independent surveyor before taking over management & sailing away in the blue. DYC is a large company, I assume boat care (not just from them, also from customers) depends where the boat actually sits.

WARANTY IS SOMETHING THAT AT LEAST DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. Do buy the vessel only at a very very good agent. Do check on delivery all fuel lines, water lines, other under water-line connections, and double check. You do not get waranty of the accessories, better buy by yourself. Check before signing the sales contract what exactly is included. Let Specify all details.
I#m speaking from real experience.

Warranty will most likely expire when I take over the boat after charter anyway. As for the first deal (buying for the charter), the best interest of the charter company to check as well (actually they deliver the boat). Otherwise they loose quite a lot on the deal, provided I tam going on a guaranteed income model.

Re: Build quality of new Dufour 382 and Jeanneau 389?

We purchase our SO389 new 1 year ago from the local dealer Performance Boating. We are very happy with the boat and the after sales service. A few minor issues were fixed under warranty promptly.
I have previously bareboat chartered from DYC and found them good to deal with.
Yachts in charter tend to age quickly due to high use, UV exposure and often inexperienced users.

Re: Build quality of new Dufour 382 and Jeanneau 389?

I bought an 1995 SO 371 after ten years of charter in the Ionian. I ran a charter fleet in Corfu for 10 years before the purchase so I knew what I was looking at.
Over all the yacht was in good nic, but as with any yacht charter or private there are always things to do.
No problems with osmosis and the Yanmar 50hp ran and still runs like a dream. I have replaced the cabin upholstery, cooker and fridge. Three years back I replaced the standing rigging and the bottle screws which needed heat to move.
The in mast furling main is now causing problems winding in/out, I suspect though it looks very clean it has stretched. A new one is needed. All the basic electronics have been replaced except the 20 year old Garmin GPS!!! If it ain't broke don't fix it!!!
A great comfortable boat, no race horse but suits me and the misses in our late seventies.

One of our members Polux believes that Dufour is down the list below Beneteau and Jeanneau.

Tim+Deltasailor: thanks for your feedbacks!
Robert: I am not 100% sold on that one, I've heard the opposite (Dufour being superior).

Personally I have no knowledge but our prolific poster Polux has made that claim on different occasions during the last year or two.
