(I actually couldn't decide on a good place to post this, so please redirect me if there's a better place)

I just moved aboard Tarka, an Albin Vega 27. I'm currently in the lagoon on the dutch side, but will be making my way over to Marigot Bay for the month of May, and then leaving for Grenada in June.

Right now I'm just looking to meet people, and bribe people for some local knowledge, tips/tricks, etc. in exchange for some.... warm beers.

The St Martin Yacht Club on the Lagoon at the Dutch bridge.
5pm happy hour till 6pm.

Or Lagoonies halfway between Budget Marine and Island Water World. Next to FKG and Electec

I gotta meet some people otherwise I would meet tonight.

Mike at Shrimpy's Laundry on the channel is your go-to guy on the French side. He knows everthing that cruisers need on St. Martin, and is a heck of a nice guy to boot. Mike runs the VHF cruiser's net, and is very helpful there, but if you go into his shop he will go over the top to help you.

Was there 2 years ago. St Martins side much cheaper than the Dutch. However watch your dinghy, always secure it (even then they go missing) and never never leave you dink on theouter town dock. "Time out" yard is a great place to get your work done with good atmosphere, helpful owners, plenty of, for Caribbean prices quite reasonable and excellent workmanship along with easy supermarket access. Good discount at Budget Marina on the French side by the bridge where you get tax free with your ships paper, plus a helpful girl who speaks good English........plus other languages I think!

If going to Grenada best place is Prickly Bay, excellent for community, evening entertainment and bus into town. Beware of anchoring outside town harbour as there have been "boardings". Make sure you stop off at Tyrrel Bay, Carriacou, one of my favourite places along with Port Elizabeth,Bequia

Wow! What a wonderful treasure of info -- I was not expecting that coming back to check responses.

I have been listening to the morning cruisers net on channel 10, and may or may not have been eavesdropping on other channels. I'm learning quite a lot about how things work around here just by listening to these conversations.

In many ways, I did get very lucky to get my hands on this particular boat. She's not the biggest, she's not prettiest, but she's an excellent example of a Vega. I have her previous owners (Jon and Juliet) here in town for a few weeks, and they've been tremendously helpful with the transition.

They've instructed me to go pester people at all the boats on anchor once I get out there, so if a pale dude, in a dinky dinghy comes up to your boat, you have them to blame.

be sure to go to the bar at the draw bridge on the channel exiting St. Martin.
the scenery is fantastic. I have never seen so many beautiful women absolutely naked cruising thru the bridge right around happy hour.

It is all about the attraction of St. Martin. French restaurants at Marigot are just plain fantastic. the dutch side is more retail shops, but a good number of restaurants there also.
Rent a car and make the drive around the island. Oriental beach - nude beach - again beautiful girl watching.

Orient beach is fun but there are others that are less crowded. Depends on what you're looking for. But do watch your things. If it's out of your site you won't have to worry about seeing it again. I even had a swim suit stolen from the beach.

don't leave st. martin without spending some time at Grand Case! I have been sailing through the caribbean for the past few months and hope to end in Grenada the same time as you. Hope to see you there!
