Jeanneau Sun Odyssey experiences

Hi, I am considering purchasing a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 452, I will be crossing the pacific and spending several months cruising then on returning home she will be my coastal cruiser, ideally for a number of years. How have you found the sailing performance of these? Have you had any issues with the furling main?

Thanks

Re: Jeanneau Sun Odyssey experiences

I have no experience with the boat, as it is out of my price range and luckily I am drawn to much older boats.

This sailor seems to give the boat a very favorable review if this is the same model.

Re: Jeanneau Sun Odyssey experiences

I have a 2000 45.2, just completed 4 year 16K cruise with wife, so double handed the entire trip. Love the boat, except for not enough diesel tankage and inadequate space for adequate house battery bank. If I lost this boat for some reason, I would be happy to get the same boat as a replacement. I have laminate sails, and no issues with in mast mainsail furl. Dacron will sooner or later stretch and then guarantees furling problems. BTW, key to easy furl / unfurl is external track for ball rearing outhaul car and large block at the clew. Not a race boat hull, but very adequate sailing speed and ride comfort. Truly excellent live aboard, with roomy saloon and kitchen. Master island berth very comfortable, heads are a bit tight but serviceable. Excellent build quality, things like detailed interior woodwork, full perforated aluminum toe rail, stout standing rigging. Alan
