I've been researching the options to part time
motor cruise around
Asia with my
family in ~3 month bites between returning home to Cairns,
Australia. This would be for 3 to 5 years until our
kids have flown the coup and then the time away from home can be as long as my wife and I want.
While part time cruising seems to be very popular around the Americas and
Europe, I can find little on it in
Asia. So far, I'm concerned that:
Hardstands seem to be limited and cost USD 500 to 1000 per month.
There is can be signifiant cyclone risk depending on location and timing.
Lots of reports of tropical sun and humidity induced damage.
In my experience,
equipment turned off for ~10 months rarely simply have a key turned and immediately
motor off trouble free.
Generally, "Posession is 9/10ths of the Law" in Asia. If I miss one trip, I could see the vessel no longer being mine or subject to trumped up tax or permitting issues.
While my
boat is "here" it will be used a lot more than if it was "over there."
For those that have travelled the region in a similar way, are my conerns well founded or am I being over cautious? If they are, it makes a lot of sense to me to return home ~2500nm at the end of each of the 3 months even though this would be dead time and
money. Am I missing something?
Many thanks
