Beneteau 57

Hi,

I consider buying of Beneteau 57 what can you say about it?
I found some opinions but maybe you can help me more?
They are not too expensive and I'm thinking why?
I was looking for B57 about 2006-2007.

Regards
Jan

Re: Beneteau 57

Considered one ... they are probably the best built Bene ever and apparently, Bene lost money on every boat sold.

Most disadvantages:

Teak deck... serious cash to replace
Normally dark blue hull... fades fast
Four cabins......... too many for a cruiser.

Opinion....

That model has been discussed here on CF before.

Click this link, go through some of the discussions and you will find comments on it.

This is a Google custom search of CF.

Re: Beneteau 57

Late post ...but a club member's 57 at dock filled up with seawater...tied to dock just a few 3 to 4 years into service...Calif. Marina Del Rey.

Through hull fittings built in 2007 France 57.'s must be replaced ASAP Due to inferior metallurgical makeup of hull metal fittings (suspect from China?) Replacement at considerable expense due to haul out. When nut is checked for tightness or torque nut cracks into pieces. Fitting after fitting and there's a lot of them on the 57's. Fragments and fitting removed and sent to lab for testing / analysis... Various % of metals NOT specified were found to be present...
Factory notified of research finding from documented metallurgical lab and in French said Basically sue us.
A Different Beneteau 57 built also 2007 and in MDR So. Calif. haul out and all through fitting replaced with high quality fittings proactively verification of inferior metallurgical fittings confirmed.

Re: Beneteau 57

Yahu,
I reviewed the metallography results on our repairman'so smart phone screen...
We discussed the components / metals that were present in the fitting fragments that the nuts had ...but we're not supposed to be present according to the fitting specifications.
Our discussion then reviewed what we know from the smelting process and batching ... And how the vessel at the foundry may not have been cleaned out sufficiently prior to ... So as a result some quantity of contamination metals were present within the vessel and then caused inferior integrity of the specified through hull fittings and nuts.
Our repairman has been servicing in Marina Del Rey for many club members and has the lab paperwork.

Re: Beneteau 57

Dear all, re-opening this discussion to have more updated reviews.

I am looking at buying a B57 for my family of 5 to live aboard for 2 years. I am looking at a budget of 250-350 ready to go. I was hoping that anyone can share his view on this specific boat. Repair, budget, main issue, etc.

Something that my wife is more concerned about is how stable is the boat. I do not want to consider multihull for now. So any point of view would be greatly apprecieted.

Thanks

Bast

Re: Beneteau 57

As a 57 owner - I think it is a wonderful boat... Very stable solid boat and rigging. My boat is a 2009 model fully loaded with away to many systems to go wrong... I am still learning systems and continue fighting issues form having it sit for almost three years in the tropics b4 I got her. I have worked on almost every system from front to back. Many issues are a result of marina boat keepers frankly really scr——g up.
