Croatia & Schengen Visas

Hi,
I’m aware the Schengen Visa is based on 90/180 day rule, but I’m getting confused. For practical purposes is Croatia deemed to be part of the Schengen area with the 90/180 day applying, or does it remain separate. For example, can I stay in the Schengen countries for 90 days then go to Croatia for 90+ days and then return to the Schengen countries after that.

Despite being part of the EU, Croatia IS NOT part of the Schengen Zone. ...
