Catalina Island Labor Day

I am thinking of sailing to Two Harbors on Catalina Island via Long Beach the Saturday prior to Labor day and staying until Monday. Does anyone have any experience with Two Harbors on Labor Day? Is it too crowded to even try or will I be able to reserve a mooring ball online? Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Securing a mooring with a Saturday AM departure from Long Beach is a very iffy proposition considering many will have left on Friday afternoon and already arrived. And, the Island tends to be a little more nutty than usual on long weekend/holidaze.

It's been a million years since I've done it, but your best bet might be anchoring in Cat Harbor, on the back side, though it's kinda a long way by sailboat.

Re: Catalina Island Labor Day

Weather's for the Labor Day weekend is looking good. The Isthmus should be pretty crowded. For holiday weekends, we usually plan on a Friday noonish arrival -- much later and your chances for a mooring decrease.

Don't even think about 4th of July or Cherry. You might find moorings further up the coast towards Howlands, Emerald, or around to Cat Harbor.

Availability also depends on the size of your boat -- smaller boats have more options.

Their "reservation" system is a bit wacky - you can make online reservation at 8 pm on Thu for Fri/Sat/Sun only, additional $25 reservation fee and additional holiday fee. 2 night minimum for non-holiday, 3 night minimum for holiday weekends. We don't bother with the reservation -- too crazy.
