Panama Canal Closure

Have not seen this update before. I was just reading a newsletter from Offshore Passage Opportunities-sailopo.com In the newsletter it states ", it has been announced that the canal will be closed for the next 12 months to any transits by boats under 65 feet."

That would change lots of peoples plans...

Re: Panama Canal Closure

That is not factual. 6 boats have transited since the "shutdown" it is very tricky to organize with special letters needed from special doctors. $$$$

Re: Panama Canal Closure

I dont believe the statement by OPO is correct either. You should challenge them to provide a source.

Its always best to go to the definitive source. In this case, the Panama Canal Authority. The only related announcement Ive found on their site says nothing about closure to small craft, only restrictions on small craft relating to COVID-19. Link below:

Re: Panama Canal Closure

There ya go, the ACP document plus a transit account. Bogus statement debunked!

Re: Panama Canal Closure

The honory consult at the Australian embassy Panama has been doing a great job regarding getting the canal open to yachts , shes helping many yachts with logistics that want to get home.
