Vessel overview and
history
The Papy Jovial (happy grandfather in Haitian creole) is a 1988
Morgan 41
Classic, which is not to be confused with the Morgan 41 Out Island; they look the same but there are some significant differences. As you may know,
Catalina Yachts purchased Morgan in the mid 1980's and made a number of refinements to an already successful design. The Classic maintains the popular high-volume interior of the 41 Out Island, with its generous accommodations, stowage and tankage, but was built using structural molded interior
hull liner modules to reduce weight and construction man hours. Of note, Catalina improved the
hull with a long fin
keel (4' 11" draft) with a full skeg
rudder and a well-balanced
sloop rig for better sailing/maneuvering performance and easier sail management underway. The cockpit and interior benefited by a number of subtle enhancements that improved ergonomics throughout. This
boat sails well and is very comfortable as a home afloat for a typical cruising
family.
There have been three owners; the first one based in
Florida and owned the
boat for 20 years. Records in the ships library indicate they cruised the
Med and
Caribbean. This first owner commissioned the addition of extensive custom interior cabinetry from stem to stern to optimize the stowage and function. The second owner acquired the boat is 2008 and performed a 22 month
circumnavigation in 2011-2012. Owner #2 made a number of significant
equipment and systems upgrades; engine in 2012, North Cruising sails in 2010,
Monitor windvane, stainless
radar arch and
solar panels, standing rigging and custom "keel wings" and a feathering
propeller while in NZ in 2011, dodger in 2008 and new full bimini enclosure in 2013, also a new LPG
stove. The third owners acquired the boat in Virginia in late 2015 and have rebuilt the sanitation system,
steering system, propane system,
windlass,
batteries, serviced the running
gear (propeller, shaft and bearings)
electronics, anchor and chain,
dinghy davits, cleaned, polished and varnished their way from top to bottom and fine tuned the systems so that everything (for the moment) is operating as it should. Under their command, the
current owners have cruised the SE US and the
Bahamas. Boat is currently in Marathon, in the
Florida Keys.
Are you ready to go cruising now?? Quit dreaming and put this boat on your short list! The Papy Jovial is not your average Morgan Classic; it is clean, ship shape, well outfitted and ready to go. You will not be disappointed; all the
work is done, saving time, frustration and $$. Asking $69,500 or OBO.
