Need glass work in San Diego

I am purchasing a 2010 Leopard 46 catamaran that has big cracks in the salon windows. I am looking for recommendations on who could replace the windows. It will be a pretty big job. The boat will be in San Diego.

Thanks!

Not sure who in SD area is good but I used to own a glass & glazing business. I know the company called "the glass guru" is a franchise business and did good work in Seattle area. I would look for one of these companies. They can source just about any type of glass and if they can understand how it comes out(they take it out), they will be able to put it back together like new

Re: Need glass work in San Diego

Just as a FYI, if the glass is shattered into a million pieces it is tempered, if its shattered into a million pieces AND not everywhere and held together by a plastic inner material (think car windshield), it would be laminate with tempered glass.

If the glass is cracked and has giant chunks that if they fell on you, theyd gouge you to death, it is "annealed".

Tempered glass is very strong when impact force is on the faces, but incredibly weak when struck on the edges.

Re: Need glass work in San Diego

That's very possible. I'd definitely recommend talking to a shop like the glass gurus. They are in Cali I know and would be able to tell you what the material is.

If it is lexan(brand name of polycarbonate), a shop such as "TAP Plastics" would be able to source the material and if you can bring it into them in relatively one piece, they can cut it out for you. You then do the install yourself. Probably save a few bucks that way.

Personally I'd contact a residential glass and glaizing shop. Not sure I'd really tell them it's for a boat as it may deter some shops from helping you.

Looking for neptune

I highly recommend a gentleman named Brick. He works in San Diego. He has been working on my commercial 70 foot catamaran recently but he knows fiberglass repair and painting. He is honest and his rates are very competitive.

Here is his number and please tell him that Mike McMahon recommended him

831 421 1498

good luck,

Mike McMahon

Re: Need glass work in San Diego

Hi Mike - Thanks for recommending Brick. I am looking for window glass, not fiberglass. Does Brick do that?

Thanks

Re: Need glass work in San Diego

Brick can do it all. He is very resourceful and competent. I suggest you at least contact him and he will be honest with you and let you know if he cannot do something and he will refer you to the right person.

He has been doing this a long time and knows lots of people.

best wishes for getting your job done well and within budget.

Capt,Michael McMahon.
