Re: New Broadblue 425....

Thank you for posting.

Not sure what to do with broadblue ... they definitely make the effort to think out of the box, but ...

I have big doubts about the cockpit and even more about the sail plan ... it looks like the Lagoon 39 with that tiny, aft placed, elevated mainsail.

But again I could be completely wrong.

Curious to hear from "the experts"

Re: New Broadblue 425....

Broadblue are an evolution of Prout who always had the small mainsail and large headsails.
It has proven itself as a successful rig and this one does have a large square head main.

I guess most owners will have an enclosure for the cockpit. Cockpit a higher level than the salon is different to most modern designs.

Overall I like the look of it

Re: New Broadblue 425....

Such a shame, from the advertising blurb one must conclude that this is an over priced poor performance catamaran. Even if this is a new boat why keep the specifications, displacement, sail area, engines, etc such a secret. Perhaps the PR department is a bit premature.

In my experience the quality of BB boats is exceptional and far superior to many mainstream production cats. The mini mainsail is very suited to trade wind sailing and the boats are lighter than their looks and reputation would have you believe.

Looks like they have finally forgone the solid foredeck and the raised cockpit seating looks very conducive to actually sailing. Be interested to see the real thing, wonder when the launch date will be.

Re: New Broadblue 425....

BB's forerunner Prout always claimed the large headsail/small main was a safer configuation for shorthanded sailing (solo or a couple). The rationale was that when a mainsail is unexpectedly overpowered and pressed against the shrouds (downwind ) it is easier/quicker to de-power a foresail than the main.

The large headsail/small main arrangement is also good for easy handling on typical trade wind routes where the mainsail does not blanket the jib negating the need for spinnakers.

The current crop of Lagoons have also migrated towards this configuration.
