Searunner 31 Battery Compartment Advice

I had my 9.9 converted to electric start. The OB sits on a lateral support (sled). The new battery cables are only 8 feet. Same length as the regulator connection which is wired through the hull into the stern anchor locker which then is conduited to the main battery below the mast next to the trunk.

Right now the length would only allow the new battery to be situated in the aft anchor locker.

Feasible? OR should I just extend the cables and put the battery somewhere in the stern cabin which would require another 6-8 feet OR just run it alongside the regulator connection and put the battery next to the existing one. That would mean cables of about 24 feet or so.

I have my batteries (4 and a charger) mounted under the storage area between the forward bunks.
Just tall enough and big enough for everything.
Then I ran long cables to the aft cabin, through a cutoff switch.
Then aft to the motor.
Sounds like a lot of cable, but you need to get power to the aft cabin.
And then it"s just a short run to the motor.
Could put batteries under the aft bunk storage, but I have a big gas tank under there.
Even then you would have to run cables to the forward cabin.

I guess that makes the most sense. Safest place also. That is where my present single battery is. Wired to the panel in the stern cabin. It's just used for lights, radio, depth, and tiller pilot.

My small gas tank under the cockpit with some extra fuel also.
