Can't open OESENC chart when starting OpenCPN

When I start OpenCPN the oesenc chart of the area covered by the display does not load. However that chart that fails to load is available, if I click on the relevant chart tab at the bottom it loads fine.the log is attached. First the chart is not available then after I select the tab it says "Creating new chart...." If I happen to move to a different area outside the "failing" chart and close down/start up then a different chart is mentioned in the error messages so it isn't one particular chart, it's any of them

Does anyone have any ideas why this might not be working?

OpenCPN 5.0.0, oesenc dongle, plugin 4.0.10

Two tests:
- Stop OCPN
- Insert the dongle and start OCPN.
- Go to to Options->Charts->Chart files. Check that desired chart files are listed and when OK "Force a full data base rebuild."

I just tried that, rebuild went OK, OpenCPN loaded and I got the oesenc-pi message indicating the chart set I have so it all went normally except it did not load the chart. On the right of my display is the CM93 chart, all good, on the left where my oesenc chart should be I get only the base world map segment. However as before when I press the tab for the chart I want it pops up ok. I wonder why it doesn't load.

Another odd thing, the oesenc-pi message showing which chart sets I can use has my chart set named twice. I see:

I am aware of this alleged "wisdom" but there in no problem is using spaces. It might make navigation less easy but functionally it is perfectly acceptable. Linux knows how to handle spaces, it's people that generally don't bother to learn how to handle them.

If I get your right the issue is that the chart does not pop-up directly by itself at start-up of OpenCPN. You need to evoke it via the chart bar and then it works as it should?


I've seen this sometimes on some systems, but not generally.

Yes that's exactly what happens, I select it via the chart bar tab and it loads perfectly. I should add that it is not always reproducible, occasionally the chart does open without intervention.

Obviously not a big deal as the solution is so trivial. Just a minor annoyance but I'll try to see if I can get to the bottom of it.

So I missed the point bcn cached. Good.
The described issue I've seen as well. There are some attempts to solve it in the latest beta where the up-start is slightly changed. On one of my old "tractor" it can still happen but now not so often.
Give the beta 5.1.621 a try to check for improvements in this matter.

I tried 5.1.621 and updated the oesenc-pi to 4.2.12 from 4.0.

I've started OpenCPN 6 or 7 times and the chart loads OK. In the log I still see the "Cannot load..." error BUT the "Creating new chart" message appears automatically without my having to press the chart tab.
