I helped somebody hook up the Raymarine Wifi
connected radar. The biggest problem that I saw is that you probably will need a dedicated WiFi
display device, since most tablets will only connect to a single
WiFi source. If youíre going to put the display at the helm
, that means a waterproof case and a permanent power source. The radar scanner still needs power cables
, so the extra size and weight of the Ethernet wire is insignificant.
So I canít see that the whole idea of WiFi connecting to the radar is a useful idea, especially if you have to buy a plotter/MFD anyway and run new power cables
But Iím one of the old luddites that wonít trust iPads, of which I have several, as my primary navigation
