Re: Topping Lift Question
This!
We did without for a while, but redeployed the topping lift for the above reasons. We routinely strap the boom this way at anchor to prevent wear on the gooseneck.

Re: Dinghy Ground Tackle & Anchor
We use a 5 lb Danforth. More than enough so far. 40' of nylon braid. No chain, have used a 6' dyneema leader then just bowline to that. We carry an extra 40' rode and have used it a couple of times...

NW Culebra has great coral. Also the reefs off La Parguera were in good shape. We anchored at the fluorescent bay there (a fun midnight outing) and did day trips to the reefs. All much better than...

We just finished this leg and arrived in Inagua yesterday. Since you say you prefer day hops, the southern route is probably preferred.
We puttered through the SVI and PR stopping to enjoy along...

I would guess solar mount to go on stern. Perhaps the black wrap is to prevent stern light reflection-- we added a similar tape to part of our davits for this reason.

Re: Any problem with a long soft shackle to attach snubber/bridle
We do something similar to what noelex shows except without the extra strap. Soft shackle through a chain link to an eye in the snubber. The nylon wears/degrades at the boat end faster than this end....

Re: Shredded belts after lifepo4 upgrade
Overdriving the alternator would overheat it. May, or may not, cause slipping. Do you get overtemp errors on the mc614? We have to run with FE-4 (75% limit I think) to keep our Balmar temp under...

Re: Adding resistor to Danfoss system
According to old Adler/Barbour/Waeco docs:
270 ohm = 2500 rpm
680 ohm = 3000 rpm
1500 ohm = 3500 rpm
Or, just put the new thermostat in series with the old which keeps the resistance the same...

Ah, understand your question. Yes, the digital thermo is powered via +12/ground separately from the switched line. So it has access to the needed power.

FWIW our old Waeco unit expected a 680 ohm resistor.
What I did when adding the digital thermostat was to place it in series with the old manual controller, then set the dial to max cold so it...

The Standard Horizon GX2000 can accept AIS messages but has no internal AIS. Ours works well with the Vesper 8000. It supports a remote Mike.

BUT: the clog...
