Re: Bruce Roberts 35ft steel ketch

Thanks Jim. It's good to stimulate an informative debate (especially if it ends up with me buying a yacht!). Cheers Andy

Re: Bruce Roberts 35ft steel ketch

Once again all, thanks for taking the time to send feedback. A lot of what I see on this yacht is repairable without too much effort - only $ - which I'd factor into an offer if I went that far. The...

Re: Bruce Roberts 35ft steel ketch

Thanks all for the very useful feedback.

Stratty - that you also looked at this boat is of great interest, even if we all have different opinions and budgets. Can I ask why you walked away so...

Re: Bruce Roberts 35ft steel ketch

Thanks Captn Black. The million dollar question if I were to pay to strip-out the interior, how much would that cost - in guestimate terms. Then there would be the costs of sand (or whatever)...

Re: Bruce Roberts 35ft steel ketch

Thanks for your comments Jim. Taken on-board. Any views on a slab-sided hull? Personally I would avoid it, but it's what's on offer. Cheers Andy

Bruce Roberts 35ft steel ketch

A steel Bruce Roberts 35 ketch has caught my eye (see link below). She was constructed professionally by a recognised steel yacht builder here in Australia. Does anyone have any experience sailing...

Re: Need a compromise boat

Hi Atlantical. You mention that you are "looking for more a recognised design. Something, heavy, spacious and solid. Speed dosent matter."

For what it's worth, the Ebbtides mentioned by others...

Re: Stainless Steel Rigging on a steel yacht

Thanks to all recent posters for your comments and suggestions. I withdrew my offer for the yacht in question because repairs needed were mounting up way beyond what was economical. Iím still on the...

Re: Pre-purchase Yacht Survey

Thanks mvweebles. I possibly hadn't explained enough. The surveyor in question was only doing the hull. The earlier rig/engine surveys were done by others. So my "hull" surveyor had done very little...

Pre-purchase Yacht Survey

Hi fellow yachts-people. After a number of years searching, I finally put an offer on a yacht in Australia. On the face of it she was perfect. I engaged a particular surveyor on the basis that they...

Re: Stainless Steel Rigging on a steel yacht

Hopefully my attempts at uploading a photo have worked. Shows what the corrosion looks like. It seems to have gone beyond just rust. I'm happy to be proved wrong 'though!

Re: Stainless Steel Rigging on a steel yacht

Thanks all. Very helpful comments. Unless I read it wrong, it sounds like ss chain plates, welded and isolated from the steel hull are the way to go.

Stainless Steel Rigging on a steel yacht

I have had a rigging survey on a steel yacht that I am hoping to buy. She has the usual stainless steel stays which have been directly connected to mild steel deck tangs/chainplates (from which the...

Re: Has anyone heard of a Voyager 36 cat?

Thanks very much for replying Steady Hand. I think the cat I am looking at is quite a local boat and probably not well known outside Australia due to its limited offshore credentials. Worth asking...
