Re: Paguro 4000 Timing Out

Makes sense, thanks a lot. Will discuss with the engineer. I think he put a new injection pump on it. I hope it's just a case of he ran out of time to shim and test it.

Re: Paguro 4000 Timing Out

Thanks SailMonkey. Makes sense.

What if there are no shims? What further work would it involve? Thanks.

Re: Paguro 4000 Timing Out

The main shaft had seized previously and the generator was in poor condition. So it was stripped down, reconditioned, new seals etc. The engineer says that the "timing is off, it is too late in the...

Paguro 4000 Timing Out

Hi all,

I have a Paguro 4000 (Farymann) generator. I was having it serviced by an engineer who stripped it, serviced it and put it back together. He now claims the timing is off and has run out of...

Re: Generator or Alternator Regulator?

Thanks all. Helps clear some things up. Considering 2 things:

- See if I can get the generator working. Its an issue probably with the timing wheel so although not cheap, Im hoping it should be...

Thanks Jims.

I have the following alternator - A003TR0091ZT (Mitsubishi). It was on the boat when I bought it. I don't have a regulator. Can I add a multi-stage regulator to this alternator?

Re: Generator or Alternator Regulator?

EDIT: for info, I have 540aH flooded sealed batteries. Appreciate this might be part of the decision process. Inverter is a 3kW/120a inverter/charger.

Generator or Alternator Regulator?

Hi all,

I have a Paguro 4000 generator that currently isn't working. An engineer had a look, stripped it, serviced it and still can't get it to work. I am going to look into a second opinion but...

Re: Using a kedge anchor vs line ashore

Great, maybe a combo of both will help.

What thickness long line do you tend to find best?

Re: Sailing Greece in October

We had some of our best sailing in the Saronic and Evia channel at that time of year. You get some amazing sunny days and cool nights. Obviously, it is more variable though.

Using a kedge anchor vs line ashore

Hi all,

I have a question about med mooring with a line ashore.

I have done this a few times but it's always been a bit of a pain with my wife and I as we are shorthanded. I also don't have...

Re: Digital Thermostat in Fridge

Is there a reason you used oil and not water? Unless the probe is placed in the freezer/frozen section

Blending in Gelcoat Repair

Hi all,

I have used a gelcoat repair paste that is a slightly different (whiter) white than my current, aged gelcoat (13 yo boat).

It looks ok, but I think it could be blended in better. Do you...

Re: Digital Thermostat in Fridge

I really like the idea of immersing the temperature probe in a small amount of liquid. Makes a lot of sense.

Re: Digital Thermostat in Fridge

Ah makes sense, thanks.

If you are saying that it is an drink cooler and not refrigerator, what can I do to upgrade it to a refrigerator? Will a plate evaporator be more efficient?

To be clear,...

Re: Digital Thermostat in Fridge

Interesting how you mention the fan should run constantly. The standard unit has the fan turning on/off in line with the compressor, however, thinking about it, there is not much harm in it running...

It is the cooler with an air fan that forces the box air through a plate heat exchanger

I have read on Richard...

Re: Teak Deck - Caulking

What I am asking in particular is:

should I do the entire caulk line or just remove old caulk to where it's good and just redo the bad bit?

I have found corrosion by the outlet of the silencer on my Volvo Penta D2-55D (photo attached). Is this common? Any thoughts? Fortunately not leaking yet.
