Re: 2-Stroke vs 4-Stroke Outboards

I have an old Tohatsu 2.5 two stroke. You can't by a new one in the US but there are plenty of parts available from multiple suppliers. You could even build yourself a whole motor if you wanted, but...

Re: Perkins 4108 exhaust manifold part

What DougR said sounds right. Only thing I would add is that if you are planing on keeping the engine for a while, you might consider replacing the pipes with stainless. It's more expensive but not...

Re: Bahamas Covid Disruption

There is a lot of discussion on the Bahamas Land and Sea Facebook group.

New rules don't apply until 1/7. Main difference is that a PCR test is required independent of vaccination status and the...

Little known fact. For the first 10 years of CF, it was just Gord.

Re: Flat Earth Debate

By brother in law has gone hard core flat earth (#Floridaman, also a COVID denier). We were somewhat of a captive audience while he was rambling on about his theories, never really asking our...

Re: Two Cruising Anchors to complement each other.

Can't start the real anchor wars until January. It's in the bylaws or something.

This is just pre-game. :D

Re: Please, do not whine....

I've always hated the process of charging by the foot. If it's for an along-side tie up then it makes sense, you're paying for some length of real estate. But for a slip, it just creates a bit of...

Re: Two Cruising Anchors to complement each other.

What do you like about the Excel so much? Just curious. I looked it up and it looks very similar to a Delta, which is a decent anchor but I don't think most folks 'love' their Delta's.

What caused...

Hey Skip,

What did you end up doing?

I'm in the same boat, so to speak, so I'm interested in what folks are finding. My quotes are similar to what you posted here, complicated additionally...

Re: Do you use a Daytime Black ball at Anchor?

I voted "once in a while" because there's not a "most of the time" choice, which is fine, and I don't do it "all of the time" since I sometimes forget.

I have a ball reflector that I typically...

Re: Bypassing leaky Perkins 4108 manual lift pump

I like this answer. The on-engine lift pump is good to have since it doesn't need an external power source. As others have said, if it's sucking air, it could also be leaking diesel in to the oil, so...

Re: Perkins 4.108 making oil

So, 250 nm and 33 hours of run time since the pump assembly, the engine is running great.

The main issue with the fuel coming out of the #1 line and not the others was not the banjo bolt,...

Re: Insurance challenges - Canada

I've had Hagerty (underwritten by Essentia, if that means anything to anyone) for as long as we've had Argyle, 14 years. They require an out of water survey every 5 years. I pay about $1100US/year...

Hi Pete, thanks for the tips. Much appreciated. Yes I have had quite an education on how these things work over the past week or so. That's actually been quite fun. I'm an engineer and I do like...

Re: Perkins 4.108 making oil

Well, the pump is back in and I think I've scored a solid 25% on the rebuild, that is, I'm getting fuel out of one of four high pressure outlets.

Diesel is only coming out of the #1 cylinder...

Re: Slip Needed - North FL

I'm not an expert on the situation but I've been to a few marinas in Mid to north FL that 'officially' say no liveaboards, but there are many 'cruisers' that are always on their boats (as we were)...

2nd Pfizer two days ago. Sore arm yesterday, extending down the arm and in to the shoulder a bit. A bit lethargic but that might just be being lazy. :) Arm is just a little sore today.

A bit...

Thanks for looking. I also contacted parts4engines, the outfit in the UK where I bought the rebuild kit. They also didn't have a lead on any online documentation. It's amazing to me how little...

Re: Firefly Battery Question?

They are similar to FLA batteries in chemistry, but you still do not want to mix and match battery types in the same bank, and definitely in this case.

You'll also want to make sure your...

Re: Perkins 4.108 making oil

That's awesome. Thanks! Makes much more sense now.

I think that when you get a remanufactured pump, they want you to make sure that cylinder 1 is at TDC and they deliver the pumps with that...
